Srinagar, Dec 14 (KNS): After Consumer Affairs and Public (CA&PD) department announced five kilos of ration to every single persons, massive protest erupted on Monday in Srinagar’s Maisuma area wherein the residents blocked the busy Budshah Chowk here and were demanding revocation of the order.
The CAPD department has reportedly said that five kg (of wheat and rice) will be provided to each person among all categories throughout the State accept the rationees under AAY category irrespective of the number of family members.
The order has brought anguish among the people here and took to streets to press the government demanding revocation of order.
The protests while chanting anti-government slogans set their respective ration cards on fire saying that it isn’t supposed to bring any respite to their lives now.
The protesters while talking to KNS alleged that the government is trying to push the people of Kashmir to walls but they are going to tolerate it any more. “We are not going to tolerate such kind of discrimination to we people. Announcing five kgs of ration to Kashmiris is clear example of discrimination,” they said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“Does government think that five kilo per head ration is enough for people,” they questioned.
Meanwhile, the protest led to ding dong battles between protesters and forces.
The police resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse the protesters.
Nonetheless, the city centre also witnessed massive traffic jam after Maisuma residents protesting against 'faulty' ration distribution.
With the blocking of busy Budshah Chowk by the protesters, massive traffic jam triggered in the commercial hub Lal Chowk.
The protesters also alleged that the CAPD had miserably failed to distribute the monthly ration due to them.
"Providing five kilos of ration won't make a difference in our lives," they said.
When KNS contacted, Minister for CAPD, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali, said that there is nothing wrong in the order as it is beneficial for the people of Kashmir. “Politics is being played on such issues as previous regime has failed to implement this act due to which they are forcing people to protest against it otherwise it will prove beneficial to the people here,” he said.
