Protests continue for 3rd day in City against CAPD on Food Act

Srinagar, Dec 16 (KNS): On the third consecutive day, the protests against the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) department continue in the Srinagar city demanding revocation of an order.
The people took to streets and raised anti-government slogans to press the government for their demands. The protesters also blocked the main roads and asked the state administration to revoke the order at earliest or face agitation.
The residents of various areas in last two days have set their ration cards on fire saying that the same is not going to bring in any relief in their lives.
Eyewitnesses told KNS that the protesters, mostly women blocked the movement of traffic near Bemina crossing to press for their demands thereby massive traffic jam was witnessed on the stretch of highway from Parimpora to Tengpora.
The protesters shouting slogans against the government alleged they are denied their ration "in the name of National Food Security Act".
"We don't need this act. Under this act, they are providing us few kilos of rice which are not sufficient for us," said a protester.
"Earlier, we were provided 35 kilos of rice per month. Now they will provide us two kilos. Does that sound justice to us," asked another protester.
While the residents of Kohnakhun area of Dalgate also held a protest against the department and accused the state administration for failing to provide benefits to the people here.

Terming the order of CAPD department as ‘discrimination’, the protesting inhabitants said that the government should revoke the order at earliest and should announce any alternate order, which will accommodate the aspiration of people here.
“Despite pushing people to walls by unscheduled power cuts, the authorities are trying to make people’s survival difficult here,” they said.
Pertinently, protests had erupted in various localities of Srinagar, including Habba Kadal, Tankipora, Shaheed Gunj, among others, yesterday with protesters alleging that the government is forcing them to die of hunger.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar while reviewing the progress under National Food Security Act, today on 16.12.2016 was informed that 86,085 consumers have obtained the digitalized forms and 17,769 fresh forms from the concerned Fair Price Shops/ Sale outlets. All other consumers are requested to obtain the forms for correction/authentication immediately and return the same by 18th Dec.2015 positively so that their correct particulars are reflected in the database.
The consumers are once again informed that Adhar Card Number is not mandatory and the forms will be received back at the concerned FP Shops/Sale Outlets without Adhar Card Number. In case of any difficulty the consumers may contact concerned Assistant Director, CAPD North/South Srinagar.
As per the schedule notified the preliminary list shall be displayed at the respective Fair Price Shops/ Sale Outlets on 22,12,2015 and objections to the preliminary lists by general public shall be received upto 26th December, 2015. (KNS)
