Zaffer asks world community to help in tracing missing persons

Salvation Movement Chairman Zaffer Akbar Bhat, on the occasion of the International Day of the Disappeared, Saturday appealed to the world Community to play its role in finding out whereabouts of thousands of innocent Kashmiris missing in Indian troops’ custody.
According to a statement issued to KNS, on this occasion a protest demonstration in press enclave Srinagar, was held and told media that India’s apathy towards finding Kashmiris who were disappeared by the forces in custody has exposed its claims of being a democratic and secular country.
Human rights defender group led by its Executive Director Abdul Qadeer and Coordinator Abdul Raouf Khan, Salvation Movement wing led by Ruqiya Baji, student’s wing ‘Pasban youth wing’ led by Mohammad Rafiq also took part in the protest demonstration. Protesters asked Indian authorities to find out whereabouts of disappeared.

They urged India to repeal all the black laws, which gave unbridled powers to Indian troops to commit gross human rights violations in the territory with impunity. He emphasized that withdrawal of the troops was a prerequisite to improve the rights situation in Kashmir.
They deplored India’s indifference towards the miseries of the relatives of the disappeared and said that during the past years over 10,000 Kashmiris had been subjected to custodial disappearance. He said that apart from this thousands of unnamed graves had been discovered in Kashmir and India hasn’t yet revealed identify of those buried in these unmarked graves. (KNS)
