Promises to people matter more than Cabinet berths : Congress MLA Irfan Lone

Says government must address concerns of daily wagers, job seekers; flags paper leaks, freedom of speech and statehood

Srinagar, Oct 27 (KNS): Congress MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone on Tuesday said fulfilling promises made to the people should be the government’s priority, arguing that the focus should be on delivering on commitments rather than on who secured a Cabinet berth and who was left out in the latest expansion.

Speaking after the swearing-in of ministers in the Omar Abdullah-led government, MLA Wagoora-Kreeri Irfan Hafiz Lone acknowledged that legislators aspired to serve people as ministers but said it was not possible to accommodate everyone in the Council of Ministers.

“It is obvious that they expect to serve people in this capacity as well, but everyone cannot become a minister. Who is in the ministry and who is hurt is not important; what is important is that the promises made to people are fulfilled,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

MLA Lone expressed hope that the government would fulfil its commitments and address public grievances, particularly those concerning daily wagers, employment, ration and free electricity.

He said people had high expectations from the government and wanted tangible action on issues affecting their daily lives.

The Congress MLA also flagged what he described as wider democratic and political challenges, including alleged vote theft, paper leaks, curbs on freedom of speech and the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

He said these issues required a collective effort to address them. (KNS)
