Srinagar, Nov 22 (KNS): Two books by noted medical scientist and litterateur Dr Syed Amin Tabish and his two musical CDs were released in a scintillating literary event at the auditorium of Govt Medical College Srinagar today.

Prof Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chan The University of Kashmir was Chief Guest, while Prof Mushtaq Sidiqi, former VC Islamic University and Dr Samia Rashid, Principal GMC  attended as Guests of Honour of the event.  

The book titled “Text Book of Hospital Planning, Organization and Management” is a voluminous resource for medical practitioners while “Alim Ta Irfaan” is a Kashmiri book about 30 greatest personalities in the human history who influenced and changed the course of history of the world of science, philosophy, theology, religion and polity. The two musical CDs “Sukoon Diluk” and “Mueth Zahar”  comprise of the poetry of Dr Tabish sung by prominent Kashmiri singers Kifayat Faheem and Shazia Bashir.

Terming the author “a legend of his times,” Prof Talat said he has an admirable understanding of his profession and literature of his motherland. “I am sure these books will prove a repository for practitioners of medicine and lovers of literature,” he noted.

Hailing efforts of Dr Tabish for simplifying medical science learning for students, Dr Sidiqi said the author's multifaceted personality is an excellent example that one can carry along medical science, natural science and spirituality with equal enthusiasm.

Dr Tabish spoke on his literary journey as also that of his times at the GMC. “I prefer to write in my mother tongue as I believe that mother tongue is the essence and identity of a nation,” he said, adding he finds it fulfilling to express his poetic self in Kashmiri language. He emphasised transformation of medical education and introducing etiquette-based medicine. He proposed changes in the medical curriculum to train the doctors of the twenty-first century and also establishing world class health facilities.

Kashmir's well-known singers-Kifayat Faheem and Shazia Bashir made a live performance by presenting  songs of Dr Tabish, to the delight of the audience which comprised poets, writers, artists, medics and students of the GMC.

Earlier noted poet and writer Inayat Gul presented a paper on the literary works of Dr Tabish.

Kifayat Faheem, Shazia Bashir, prominent broadcaster Rashid Nizami and acclaimed student of GMC Zoha Suzain were felicitated by presenting mementos to them.  

Dr Showkat Khan proposed the vote of thanks.
