Srinagar, May 17 (KNS): Professor Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Director of Colleges, Jammu & Kashmir, has assumed charge as the Dean of Academic Affairs at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), officials said.
Prof. Bashir, who was recently deputed to IUST as a Professor in Electronics and Communication Engineering, brings over three and a half decades of experience in academic administration, policy formulation, and institutional development.
He has been heading the Department of Higher Education as Director of Colleges since 2024 and has played a key role in advancing digital governance in higher education through initiatives like the data-driven policy planning system SIGMA, SCALE, and automated credit-based contractual faculty engagement systems.

He was appointed Principal in 2016 and headed Islamia College of Science & Commerce from 2019 to 2023, where he introduced several UG, PG, and diploma programmes under Academic Leap 2020, a Learning Management System, and examination reforms. Under his leadership, Islamia College became the first in J&K to implement the National Education Policy.
Later, as Principal of Amar Singh College with additional charge as Nodal Principal for Kashmir Division colleges, he initiated an infrastructural makeover of the institution.
Officials said Prof. Bashir continues to hold the charge of Director of Colleges and is driving a centralised, student-friendly admission process at the directorate level, expected to boost enrolment across degree colleges in J&K. (KNS)
