President Murmu Addresses Parliament as Budget Session 2026 Begins

 New Delhi, Jan 28 (KNS): The Budget Session of Parliament 2026 began on Wednesday with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The session marks the start of parliamentary proceedings ahead of the Union Budget 2026–27.

In her address, the President outlined the government’s priorities, focusing on economic development, social justice, national security, and infrastructure expansion. She said India has strengthened its foundation across sectors over the last decade and has entered a key phase in its journey towards Viksit Bharat.
 
President Murmu said around 25 crore people have come out of poverty in the past ten years, while nearly four crore pucca houses have been built for the poor. She added that India has become the second-largest fish-producing nation in the world.
 
Highlighting social welfare measures, the President said government schemes now cover about 95 crore citizens, compared to 25 crore in 2014. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equality and social justice, recalling the ideals of Dr B R Ambedkar.
 
On employment, the President said the proposed Viksit Bharat–G RAM G law aims to guarantee 125 days of employment in rural areas.
 
Speaking on women’s empowerment, President Murmu referred to the first batch of women cadets graduating from the National Defence Academy, saying it reflected the growing role of women in national development.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
 
On internal security, she said Maoist violence has been reduced significantly and is now limited to eight districts, with peace returning to several previously affected regions. She also stated that many individuals linked to Maoist groups have surrendered over the past year.
 
Addressing national security, the President mentioned Operation Sindoor and said India follows a firm policy against terrorism. She said the government is also working on Mission Sudarshan Chakra to strengthen defence preparedness.
 
The President highlighted railway development, stating that Indian Railways is close to achieving full electrification. She referred to new rail services, including the Delhi–Aizawl Rajdhani Express and the Kamakhya–Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper train, saying these initiatives aim to improve connectivity across regions.
 
The President concluded her address, marking the formal beginning of the Budget Session. The Economic Survey is scheduled to be tabled on January 29, while the Union Budget 2026–27 will be presented on February 1.(KNS)
