Preserving mother tongue must be collective mission: MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone

Sopore, Jun 19 (KNS): Terming the protection of Kashmiri language a collective responsibility, MLA Wagoora-Kreeri Irfan Hafiz Lone stressed that linguistic preservation cannot be relegated to the background in the pursuit of academic excellence.

"The mother tongue is our identity. It cannot be allowed to die while we run after degrees and marks," MLA Lone said during his visit to SRM Welkin School, which produced eight rank-holders in the top-ten across Class 10 and 12 board examinations in the previous session board examinations.

Emphasising a multi-pronged approach, the MLA Lone called for grassroots interventions, including introduction of Kashmiri literature in school curricula, increased conversational use at home, and active participation from civil society.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel"It is not enough to speak about preservation. We must act — from our drawing rooms to our classrooms," he added.

Advocate Irfan Hafiz Lone, however, was effusive in his praise for the school administration, calling SRM Welkin "a moment of pride for North Kashmir" for its consistent results and holistic development of students. He also advocated for elevating the institution to private university status, citing its growing reputation and "bright, colourful results."

Meanwhile, School authorities welcomed the MLA's suggestions and assured him of their readiness to incorporate more Kashmiri language content into their academic framework. (KNS)
