Power supply to improve in coming months, neglected areas will be prioritized: MD KPDCL

Srinagar, May 02 (KNS): Managing Director, Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) on Tuesday said supply of electricity in Kashmir division will be improved further in coming months. He said that providing adequate power supply to consumers will remain among his top priorities.

"During last 2 to 3 years a major change took place in supply and demand of electricity. The supply was much mmproved in these years. However in times to come the electricity supply will be improved further," MD, KPDCL Baseer-ul-Haq Chowdhary told KNS.

He said the installation of smart meters is a major challenge for the department as all services required in life are based on electricity.  "I appeal consumers abroad to reserve some pocket money for paying smart meter bills. As we know everything is linked with electricity, even we cannot charge our mobile batteries without electricity," he said.

He added as Annual Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to be started from July 1st, the KPDCL is effectively busy in making fool-proof  arrangements of electricity areas enroute to the Yatra. "The arrangements are being given final touch and the situation is being monitored keenly," he said.

He said the KPDCL will work on neglected areas to ensure adequate power supply to these areas. "There are many areas who have been neglected from last 33 years like Gurez, tail end of Kupwara, etc. We will prioritize these areas and will improve electricity there," he added. (KNS)
