Banihal, Aug 20 (KNS): Power infrastructure in the Banihal-Gool constituency received a major boost with the augmentation of the Banihal Receiving Station, aimed at easing overloading and improving electricity supply, MLA Sajjad Shaheen said on Thursday.
Shaheen inaugurated the augmented receiving station here, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.25 crore under the UT Capex programme. Its capacity has been enhanced from 6.3 MVA to 10.6 MVA.
The MLA said the increased capacity would help reduce overloading, particularly during winter when electricity demand rises considerably.
He said the government was implementing a broader plan to strengthen the power network across the constituency.
The Sangaldan Receiving Station has already been augmented from 3.15 MVA to 6.3 MVA, while work to enhance the capacity of the Khari Receiving Station from 3.15 MVA to 6.3 MVA is underway and is expected to be completed shortly, Shaheen said.
He further said an additional 50 MVA transformer would soon be installed at the Grid Station Tethar, which would further enhance the capacity and reliability of the power supply network.

“People have been facing the problem of overloaded receiving stations for a long time. We are working to address this issue in a systematic manner so that the power infrastructure keeps pace with the growing requirements of our people,” Shaheen said.
He said new receiving stations have also been planned at Chamalwas, Neel, Kaskoot and Kawna to strengthen the distribution network in these areas.
The proposed infrastructure would help reduce power disruptions, particularly those caused by the snapping of long transmission lines during heavy snowfall and harsh winter conditions, he said.
Shaheen said the combined impact of the projects would significantly improve the power supply across the Banihal-Gool constituency and provide consumers with a more stable and reliable electricity supply.
The MLA expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his support to development initiatives in Banihal, saying his backing had been instrumental in taking forward key infrastructure projects in the constituency.(KNS).
