Srinagar, May 10 (KNS): Javed Ahmed Rana, Central Secretary JKNC, former Deputy Chairman Legislative Council, Ex-MLA, has expressed serious concern over “the power failure and unscheduled cuts in sub-division Mendhar”.
While talking to public, who called on former MLA in his office at Mendhar, Rana asked “the Power Development Department (PDD) to replace damaged transformers at receving station Mankote / other damaged transformers in sub-division Mendhar immediately”.
Rana, also expressed serious concern over the failure of PDD to supply the power in border district Poonch and particularly in sub-division Mendhar and requested Governor Satya Pal Malik to intervene into the matter on top priority basis.
Rana, “also asked the Governor to consider the pir-panjal region as a part of J&K state which is not being considered by the govt administration till date”. He reminded Honorable Governor regarding “his claim that he is a chief minister of state”.
He asserted that “Mankote is a very far flung area which is situated very close to LoC. It has a population of more than 30,000 people which is distributed in 17 panchayats and to their dismay the government has allotted only 11 kv line to fed electricity in the region”. The people in this region claimed that “overload and power snapping is quite often in the area and the power receiving station lacks the capability to cater the power supply demand of the people living there and recurrently, the receiving station becomes dysfunctional for unknown reasons”.
“Frequent power cuts have made the life of people miserable which gets further escalated during storm or harsh summer days," said Rana.
“Angry public is on the roads and people are alleging that nobody pays heed to their grievances”, pointed Rana.
“As a result of power crisis people have to spent sleepless nights and these days being the holy month of Ramadan has further aggravated their problems," said Rana, vehemently.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He further asserted that “power crisis has soared the problems of students who are unable to do their daily routine work and prepare for exams or other entrance tests”.
“People have raised a lot of hue and cry but everything is going in vain”, he stressed further.
Rana further emphasized that “as a result of power crisis, the water supply in the region has been bady hit and people are suffering for their no fault on this account”.
“Also to be noted, this region is a drought hit area and there is already so much scarcity of drinking water for the inhabitants”, said Rana lamently. He raised a concern that “there is every possibility that grim power scenario might instigate public to go for protests in this holy month of Ramadan”.
“Already the area is under the lap of low voltage and power fluctuations. As a result electric gadgets / appliances of people get damaged which further adds on their liabilities”, said Rana.
“For a country to maintain fast trajectory of development and momentum of high growth, electricity is an imperative tool and in this context, Mankote tehsil remains a laggard and dismal picture” quoted Rana.
He suggested that “there is a need to make a platform for public-private partnership models wherein private sector has been playing an imperative role”. He further said “concerned authorities should be made accountable to ensure quality work and reliable power supply”.
“If the present scenario continues, this region will soon be plunged into deep power crisis which will be disastrous not only for region but for the entire planet”, said Rana, categorically.
“Unfortunately, concerned authorities have failed to implement effective solutions despite public demand”, he alleged. (KNS)
