Ishfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal BJP leader and national executive member ST Morcha on Thursday welcomed the hanging of Yakub Memon, lone convict in 1993 blasts in Mumbai. Menon 53, was hanged a little before 7 am at Nagpur Central Prison.
Poswal said that the hanging will provide some respite to nearly 300 bereaved families who lost their near and dear ones in terror attack nearly three decades ago. “The victim families have been fighting relentlessly for justice all these years. These families must have got some respite today as the main accused in the blast met the fate today,” Poswal said.
“I am hopeful that the investigating agencies will not spare other accused in the deadly Mumbai terror attack and they should meet the same fate.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe BJP government is committed to eliminate terror from the Indian soil and restore lasting peace in the county,” he added.
Poswal also hailed the judiciary for pronouncing a landmark verdict in the case. “It is a historic decision and I am confident to say that besides victim families’ people of the country must have hailed the same,” BJP leader said.
At 5 am, the Supreme Court had rejected Menon’s last-minute petition to stop his hanging after an unprecedented middle-of-the-night hearing. President Pranab Mukherjee rejected Yakub Memon's mercy petition sent to him on Wednesday.
