Poonch attack carried out with active support of locals: DGP Dilbag Singh

Srinagar, April 28 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbag Singh Friday said that the recent attack in Bhata Durian area of Poonch in which five soldiers were killed was carried out with active local support.


After taking stock of the ongoing search operations in Darhal area of Rajouri district, the DGP while speaking to reporters said that the terrorists used steel core bullets and IEDs to target the army vehicle in order to inflict maximum damage. 

He said that the search for natural hideouts used by the terrorists is ongoing, and it is believed that 9 to 12 foreign militants are active in the Rajouri-Poonch area. 

The attackers had proper reconnaissance of the area, they knew the speed and location of the vehicle, and were sheltered and transported by locals," the DGP said.

He said that the police have identified Nisar Ahmed, a resident of Gursai village, and his family for providing logistic and other support to terrorists, including collecting weapons, grenades, and cash dropped by drones. 

He further said that during questioning police have got vital leads from Nisar and 12 other suspects have been detained so far. (KNS)
