Politician Mohammad Sultan Pandithpuri Passes Away at 90

Handwara, May 30 (KNS): Mohammad Sultan Pandithpuri, a prominent political figure and former MLA from Langate, passed away on Friday at the age of 90.

Pandithpuri, who had been unwell for some time, breathed his last at his Noor Bagh residence in Baramulla, a close associate confirmed.

Born in Panditpora, Langate, Pandithpuri was a key figure in Jammu and Kashmir politics for several decades. He began his political journey with the National Conference under Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. After spending nearly a decade in jail, he distanced himself from the party and later joined Ghulam Mohammad Shah’s faction.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelKnown for his influence, Pandithpuri was often referred to as the “Shadow Chief Minister” during Shah’s tenure.

In later years, he joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before eventually retiring from active politics.

Pandithpuri is survived by his son, Irfan Sultan Pandithpuri, who currently serves as the District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson of Kupwara, representing the Sajad Gani Lone-led Peoples Conference.

Funeral prayers will be held at his Noor Bagh residence in Baramulla at 9:00 AM on Saturday.(KNS)
