Srinagar, Dec 19 (KNS): “Sheikh Muhammad Yousuf, the 80-year-old Jamaat activist from Sopore has been detained second time by the police after the district Magistrate Baramulla issued second detention order under the draconian law of Public Safety Act, on the recommendations of the local police without taking into account the order of the high court quashing his earlier detention”, said Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JeI) in a statement issued to KNS.
The party said that despite the fact that the High Court had quashed the earlier detention order after finding the grounds to be illegal and unwarranted and taking into consideration his old age and infirm health conditions but the police ignored all these facts and rearrested him.
The Jamaat said the detenue soon after he was released from district jail Kupwara was kept under custody in police station Sopore showing him involved in a number of cases.
“After the court granted bail in all these cases, police recommended his detention under PSA which has been readily accepted by the District Magistrate Baramulla without applying his judicial mind and ordered the detenue to be lodged in Kupwara jail again,” said Jamaat.
The JeI said that in the same way chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat Aasiya Andrabi has been rearrested by the police soon after she was released from district jail Baramulla on the directions of the high court which has quashed her detention order.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“Now she stands detained in Baramulla jail again. By these actions the police have been depicting its negative and contemptuous attitude towards the judiciary time and again. The court orders are no more than the pieces of waste papers before the police and the valley has virtually been turned into a police station,” the party added.
Jama’at-e-Islami condemned the misuse of the Public Safety Act and other such black laws by the police, and demanded early release of all political prisoners.
Furthermore, it impresses upon the Kashmir Bar Association and other human rights organizations to take serious notice of anti-people and dictatorial ways of police and state administration and their contemptuous attitude towards the judiciary and make positive efforts to get it all stopped.
Meanwhile, Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir extends its deep congratulations to Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo chief editor of GK & Kashmir Uzma on being elected as the president of Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG), an apex body of the editors of the highly esteemed local print media. Jama’at also congratulates Masood Hussain (Chief Editor, Kashmir Life) for being elected as Secretary General KEG and other revered members of the executive board and hope they will continue playing the pro-people role in their field of journalism which is considered to be indispensable for building a healthy and prosperous nation.
