Police seizes illicit timber in Ganderbal, accused arrested

Ganderbal March 06 (KNS) : Police in Ganderbal have seized illicit timber and arrested the accused person involved in the commission of crime.


Acting on a specific information regarding timber smuggling, a police party led by SHO PS Gund under the supervision of SDPO Kangan raided the upper reaches of forest cover at Compartment No.36 Sindh Range Kangan and seized the illegally dumped forest timber dumped in the compartment. Besides, arrested the smuggler identified as Muneer Ahmed Bijran son of Dilpazeer Bijran resident of Hilpati Gund.

During preliminary questioning, it came to the surface that the accused person had cut down forest trees and kept them hidden in the forest compartment with the intention to sell the illicit timber.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 08/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Gund and investigation has been initiated.

The drive against timber smugglers will continue to ensure protection of green gold. Our consistent actions against anti-social elements should reassure the community members that we are making every effort to keep our society free of crime. Police have resolved to act as per law against those who indulge in criminal & anti-social activities. (KNS)
