Cybercrime awareness programme organised in Handwara

Srinagar November 04 (KNS) : Police in Budgam organised a seminar on ‘corruption free India for a developed nation’ at Government Degree College Magam. Besides, cybercrime awareness programme was organised in Handwara.


The seminar ‘corruption free India for a developed nation’ was organised in Budgam under the aegis of "Vigilance Awareness Week-2022". SSP Budgam Shri Tahir Saleem Khan-JKPS was the chief guest on the event. Principal Government Degree College Magam Dr. Mohammad Hussain Malik, SDPO Magam, Senior Prosecuting officer DPO Budgam, SHO Police Station Magam and teaching staff of the college were also present on the occasion.

On the occasion, SSP Budgam threw light on the history and genesis of Vigilance Awareness Week and life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. SSP Budgam said that the ultimate motive of every citizen should be no corruption at any cost by means of transparency and accountability which are two tools for eradicating this evil. He also said that corruption does not mean to be paid in cash only, but it also means to do undue favour to some ineligible beneficiary. He urged participants to report incidence of corruption before appropriate forums/institutions and should stand against any means of corruption.

SSP Budgam briefed the audience about the use of Jan Baghidari Portal where, in a single click, a common man gets whole information of his/her area related programmes, schemes and works pertaining to different departments in his /her village.

Further, the pledge for standing against corruption was administered by SSP Budgam to the participants including students of college, staff members and officers of Police.

On the occasion, Senior Prosecuting officer Budgam, Principal Degree College Magam, officers of Budgam Police, staff members and students of college also addressed the gathering and spoke on corruption, its evil impact on society and how it can be checked and eradicated from the society.

Later, officers presented mementos to students and Principal of the college who threw light upon the importance of corruption free society and vigilance awareness week.

Meanwhile in Handwara, Police organised a Cyber Crime Awareness Programme at Govt. Higher Secondary School MH Pora Kralgund. The programme was attended by students, teachers and staff members of 04 schools viz, Govt. Higher Secondary School MH Pora, Boys Middle School MH Pora, Girls Middle School MH Pora and Dawn Public School.

DYSP PC Kralgund Shri Adil Hussain-JKPS hosted the awareness programme along with SHO PS Kralgund. During the programme, the participating students and staff members were briefed about various types of cyber threats and crimes prevalent these days, such as, identity theft, credit card fraud, data theft, cyber stalking, sextortion, OTP frauds, among others.

The participants were urged to adopt safe browsing habits, to avoid suspicious websites while surfing the Internet, to not share OTPs or Bank Account Details and Passwords with anyone. The participants were also appraised of safety measures which could be adopted while banking online/ conducting online transactions. The students were also cautioned against accepting friend requests from unknown persons or chatting with unauthenticated persons on social media.

The students and staff appreciated the efforts of Police for organising the cyber awareness programme and spreading awareness about various cybercrimes.(KNS)
