Srinagar, Sep 28 (KNS): As part of World Rabies Day 2026 observances, the Department of Community Medicine, SKIMS Medical College and Hospital, Bemina, in collaboration with the Block Medical Officer (BMO), Soibugh, and the National Rabies Control Programme, organised a pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) vaccination drive at PHC Soibugh on Monday.

A total of 48 individuals identified as being at high risk of occupational or other potential exposure to rabies received the first dose of the PrEP vaccine, initiating their vaccination schedule, officials said.

The remaining doses will be administered to the identified beneficiaries as per the applicable guidelines and recommended vaccination schedule.

The session focused on rabies prevention and control, recognition and management of potential exposures, appropriate wound care, timely initiation of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and the importance of vaccination among high-risk personnel.

Healthcare workers also discussed practical issues related to rabies prevention and control and their role in early management and community-level prevention of the disease.

The initiative aimed to strengthen preventive protection among high-risk groups and enhance preparedness among healthcare workers for timely management of suspected rabies exposures. (KNS)
