Police investigate Use of Electric Current to catch Fish In Handwara

 

Handwara October 21 (KNS): The power department on Thursday, asked the police to identify the poachers for using electric current to paralyze fish and to catch them in Nallah Mawer area of north Kashmir's Kupwara.

Sources told Kashmir News Service (KNS), that the power department Handwara has received a complaint of using electric current from the 11KV transmission line passing over Nallah Mawer in Langate to paralyze the fish to catch them.

Soon after receiving the compliant, the Power Department has written a letter to local police station Qalamabad to investigate the complaint.

An police official said they have received a complaint from power department to identify the accused for using electric current for fishing in Nallah Mawer. "We have started the investigation to identify the accused.The investigation is underway," he said.

Meanwhile Director Fisheries Kashmir said that they have also received a compliant that some miscreants are using electric current to paralyze the fish to catch them.

"Our officials are on ground to look into the matter, so far we haven't observed any such attempt, instead a twist has been given to a rivalry between two families their in Langate Mawer," he said, adding that they are closely following the matter. "if anyone found guilty, he will be dealt as per law," he added.

 

It's pertinent to mention that, few incidents have been reported in the past where people have loss the life or suffered grievous injuries of electric current for fishing. The locals operating farms in the area have also raised apprehension of loss and urged authority to ensure the safety of fish farms in the area, the only livelihood to these people.(KNS)
