Srinagar, June 22 (KNS): A police inspector was shot dead by suspected militants in Nowgam area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Tuesday evening, reports said.

Reported said that militants fired upon Pervaiz Ahmad Dar while he was returning home in Kanipora area after offering Maghrib (evening) prayers.

Dar, they said, was critically injured in the attack, following which he was shifted to SMHS hospital in the city, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Dar was posted at Parimpora police station, said the sources, adding that he worked in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

“Investigations have been started in the matter,” said a police official while confirming Dar’s killing.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference condemned the killing of Dar.
