‘Police had closed the road leading his house’

Srinagar, Apr 23 (KNS): Police on Sunday sealed the Hyderpora residence of Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani to foil a scheduled release of his book Ruh-e-Deen Ka Shanasa on Allama Iqbal. The people present in Jamia Masjid Hyderpora protested against unwarranted restrictions.
In a statement to KNS, Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar strongly criticized state administration for unjustified police action.
Ayaz Akbar said that Geelani was to release the third volume of book written by him titled “Iqbal-Rohi Deen Ka Shanasa” on Sir Mohammad Iqbal at Hyderpora office. We had invited intellectuals, journalists, poets and senior citizens to function which was to be held within the four walls of Geelani’s house. However, police had put up barricades and closed the road leading to Geelani’s house from Srinagar-Airport main road.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelNobody, even the media was allowed to enter the venue of the book release function, said spokesman. It is unfortunate that even social gatherings were not being allowed by the state authorities and genuine voices are being strangulated, said spokesman.
He said that prominent among invitees including Ad Miyan Ab Qayoom President Bar association, Peer Saif ullah, Raja Meraj u Din, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ab Majid Zarger, Devinder Singh Bhel, Mohd Yusuf Mujahid, Ad Mohd Shafi Rishi, Mohammad Ashraf Laya, Zamrooda Habib, Shah wali Mohammad, Mohd Syed, Gh Mustafa Wani Mudasir Nadvi, Rafiq Ahmad Owasi, Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi & Ashiq Hussain were invited on book release function.
