Srinagar, Mar 03 (KNS): Police on Friday detained scores of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation frint (JKLF) leaders including its vice chairman, Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, zonal president Noor Muhammad Kalwal and others when they were holding a peaceful sit-in near Budshah Chowk Lal Chowk.
The JKLF sopokesmn in a statement issued to KNS said that among those arrested include Professor Javed, Muhammad Aslam sheikh and Muhammad Irfan Khan.
“Police even does not spare a speciallyable person Imtiyaz Ahmad Parray and arrested him too. Arrested have been shifted to central jail Srinagar,” the JKLF spokesman said.
Prior to these arrests, JKLF leaders and activists along with many others marched from Madeena Chowk towards Budshah Chowk but as soon as they reached near Budshah Chowk police that had blocked the road going towards Lal Chowk with two police vehicles swung into action, showered abuses on the participants of sit-in and used brutal force to arrest them.
“JKLF vice chairman Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi and Muhammad Aslam sheikh were injured because of police highhandedness,” the spokesman added.
While strongly condemning this ‘unprovoked police highhandedness’, JKLF Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik said that police attack on a peaceful sit-in is yet another example of ‘state sponsored violence’.
He said that from last many months this sit-in program announced by united resistance leadership has been held peacefully but today police without any provocation used aggression against this program.
Malik said that police and their political masters on daily basis issue statements and claim that peaceful political activities are not stopped but the fact is that every little space on peaceful activities has been choked and so-called rulers and their police are promoting violence by these measures.
He said that today’s peaceful sit-in was against Zakoora and Batamaloo bypass massacres by Indian forces in 1990 and also against the deployment of more pellet guns in Kashmir.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
JKLF chief said that Zakoora and Batamaloo bypass like massacres remind us the Indian brutality in Jammu Kashmir and that freedom struggle of Jammu Kashmir is defined by the sacred blood of our martyrs.
He said that tyranny, oppression, massacres and brutalities have not and can never defeat the will of Kashmiri nation.
While strongly condemning the deployment of more pellet guns in Kashmir, JKLF chairman said that guns and pellets that blinded thousands of innocents, maimed thousands and killed many in Kashmir are being deployed in larger numbers to kill, blind and main more.
“This is a clear apathy; show of aggression and like declaring war against a whole nation,” asserted Malik.
He said that the Kashmiri rulers and other pro-India politicians and parties are actually responsible for this ‘aggression and oppression’ against Kashmiris as they are the ones who provide legal cover to these ‘acts of oppression’, said Yasin Malik.
It is worth to mention that besides JKLF leaders and activists, senior resistance leader Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi, Hurriyat (G) activists Muhammad Ramzan Khan and Gazi Javed Baba also participated in today’s protest program.
Meanwhile, JKLF chairman has expressed his heartfelt grief and sorrow over the demise of wife of professor Saif ud Din and mother of veteran columnist doctor Javed Iqbal.
While praying for the heavenly abode of the deceased, JKLF chairman expressed solidarity with her bereaved family.
A delegation of JKLF comprising of secretary general JKLF Ghulam Rasool Dar Eidhi and zonal general secretary sheikh Abdul Rashid today visited the bereaved family and participated in her funeral prayers.
