Srinagar, May 24 (KNS): Police on Tuesday foiled the protest of Footpath Union and detained scores of street vendors who tried to march towards Civil Secretariat.
The Footpath Union marched towards Civil Secretariat from Jahangir Chowk to mark a protest against the government for ‘failing to provide any suitable alternate place to them’.
Hundreds of street vendors while chanting anti-government slogans marched towards the Civil Secretariat to press the government for their demands.
Earlier talking to KNS, the street vendors said that they won’t let government to play with their bread. “We will continue to fight against the government until our demands won’t met,” the street vendors said.
They said that by acting as mute spectator, the government left them to lurch. “Government should provide any suitable alternate place for us.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelDespite banning our work in city centre, the government is not coming up with a suitable place thereby resulted in the immense hardships to the street vendors,” they said.
They said that at least 20 days passed since their work was banned in commercial hub Lal Chowk due to which the authorities have left them on God’s mercy.
Footpath Union told KNS that the government should come up with the decision at earliest, which will accommodate the aspirations of hundreds of street vendors who became unemployed due to ‘deplorable behaviour’ of authorities.
Meanwhile, as soon as the protesters tried reached nearer to the civil secretariat, police used water cannons to disperse the protesting street vendors and detained scores of street vendors. (KNS)
