Srinagar, Feb 11 (KNS): Police on Saturday foiled the protest organized by the Democratic Liberation Party (DLP) and detained scores of its members after they tried to march towards commercial Hub Lal Chowk against the capital punishment.
The members of DLP who were detained during the protest were later lodged at Police Station Kothi bagh.
Earlier, the protesters under the banner of DLP assembled at Srinagar’s Press Enclave and chanted pro-freedom slogans.
The protesters who were holding banners displaying ‘Hey India, Amend the law and cancel capital punishment’ were demanding mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat who was hanged and buried in New Delhi’s Tihar jail on this day in the year 1984.
Senior DLP leader, Muhammad Iqbal Qureshi told KNS that despite passing 33 years, the Indian authorities are yet to return the mortal remains of Bhat. “It is unfortunate that despite claiming themselves world’s largest democracy, the Indian administration has miserably failed to return the mortal remains of Bhat,” he added.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
