Democratic Freedom Party chairman, Shabir Ahmad Shah was detained at New Delhi airport on Saturday as he reached there to hold talks with Pakistan NSA Sartaj Aziz.
DFP Spokesperson Zamir Ahmad told KNS over phone that Shah was detained by Delhi police upon reaching the Indira Gandhi International Airport. “At 12.15 pm when Shah Sahab deplaned, central security agencies along with Delhi Police detained him,” he said.
Sources said Mohammed Abdullah Tari who was accompanying Shabir Ahmad Shah was also detained by the police. However sources said that they were being taken to the guest house to be placed under house arrest.
It is to mention here that the separatist leaders have received an invite from Pakistan High Commission in Delhi for a reception being hosted in the honour of National Security Advisor, who is scheduled to arrive in Delhi to hold talks with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval tomorrow.
Pertinently, the Jammu and Kashmir government had said that it will not detain any Hurriyat leader at Srinagar.
Other leaders among the separatists including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq and Yasin Malik are also supposed to visit New Delhi tomorrow to meet Aziz.
Meanwhile, Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has condemned Shah’s arrest and said the Government of India (GoI) by arresting the pro-freedom leader once again put hindrances in way of NSA level talks between the two countries.
In a statement to KNS spokesman of the party has termed such attitude of India as “a ploy to run away from talks with Pakistan” and said the New Delhi never showed seriousness when it came to dialogue but “always played such gimmicks to derail the process.”
The spokesperson made it clear that by turning the whole valley into a jail and by arresting the resistance leaders, the freedom movement will not come to halt “but will continue to invoke pressure from international community upon India to resolve the long pending issue of the subcontinent.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel”
He suggested India not to try to be “hegemonic” nation in the region “if it (India) wants peace in the subcontinent.” “Besides, New Delhi should maintain cordial relations with all its neighbours including Pakistan and express its willingness to resolve the Kashmir dispute through implementation of UN resolutions.”
Lauding the statement of Sartaj Aziz, Freedom Party spokesperson termed the Pakistan’s stand vis-à-vis NSA level talks as “encouraging”. “Pakistan has played a vital role with regard to finding a justifiable solution to Kashmir issue, maintaining peace in the region, fighting terrorism and keeping cordial relations with its neighbours.”
“India should understand that in order to ensure lasting peace in the South Asia, the solution to Kashmir issue is vital,” he added.
The spokesperson also criticized the Indian media and state’s pro-India politicians for “putting hindrances in way of Indo-Pak talks” through their “distasteful behaviour and politically motivated statements”, respectively.
Meanwhile, Freedom Party strongly condemned the fresh arrest spree of its leaders and activists among which Engineer Farooq Ahmad, Muhammad Saeed, Abdul Rashid, Muhammad Amin (Littar, Pulwama), Bashir Ahmad Gattoo and dozens of others were arrested during nocturnal raids by police.
“The current state administration surpassed the record of its predecessors in inflicting tyranny and brutality upon the people,” the spokesperson added. (KNS)
