Police ‘assaulted’, arrested Malik at Khanyar: JKLF

Calls it as ‘an act of naked hooliganism, state terrorism’

Srinagar, Apr 28 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on Saturday said that its chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested by police when he was on his way to Jamia Masjid Srinagar to lead a peaceful protest there.
“Police near Gousia hospital Khanyar stopped the vehicle that Malik was driving and straightaway Superintendent of Police Sajad Ahmad started showering abuses on him and the whole resistance movement. He was endlessly calling resistance camp as terrorists and threatening to kill them all,” JKLF spokesman said in a statement issued to KNS.
The spokesman said that Malik objected to his misbehavior and asked him to show some control and sense but there was no stopping to his ‘hooliganism’. “He ordered his uniformed soldiers to attack Malik and obliging their senior’s order policemen assaulted, injured him and virtually dragged him to police station Khanyar from where he along with another JKLF leader Bashir Kashmiri has been shifted to police station Kothibagh,” the statement said.
Terming today’s ‘police assault’ on Malik as ‘an act of naked hooliganism’, JKLF said that what police did at Khanyar today shows the criminal mindset of police who by unleashing state terrorism have turned Kashmir into a worst hell where the lives and honor of no one is safe.
JKLF said that when police can publicly abuse and assault a well known person in broad day light what will be their behavior towards common citizens especially the youth who are tangled in their clutches.
The spokesman said that pre 1988 and post 2008, same police terrorist like behavior has and is pushing Kashmiri to the wall and hence promoting violence which is highly condemnable.
Ridiculing the ‘absurd’ police version about the assault in which police has said that it was checking the papers of vehicles and didn’t attack Malik, JKLF said that this statement in itself is a glaring proof of ‘police mockery’, which is going on in Kashmir from last three decades.
“Police assaulted Malik in front of hundreds of people who were present at the spot and among whom many made videos of that too,” JKLF spokesman said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
It is also worthy to note that ironically SP from police station Khanyar and his Junior officers along with SDPO P/S Kothibagh and SHO P/S Maisuma were all deployed together to check the papers of vehicles in place of Traffic police that too at Khanyar.
“It is the same kind of lies that police are used to spread after killing innocents and oppressing common citizens and this ugly practice has been going on from last three decades now,” added JKLF.
While condemning this police ‘highhandedness’, JKLF said that Kashmiris are resisting oppression and aggression and no power on earth can suppress their voices or force them into submission.
Meanwhile, JKLF paid tributes to Muhammad Haneef Aamir who embraced martyrdom in 1991.
Terming Aamir as ‘a great son of soil’, Malik said that his sacrifice will always be remembered.
A delegation of JKLF comprising of JKLF senior secretary general Ghulam Rasool Dar Eidhi, Zahoor Ahamd Butt and Muhammad Sideeq Shah visited the residence of Shaheed Aamir and expressed solidarity with his family.
Meanwhile, Malik expressed his heartfelt grief and sorrow over the sad demise of the mother of senior JKLF leader Khawaja Manzoor Ahmad Chisiti who breathed her last today.
JKLF chief while expressing solidarity with her bereaved family said that the struggle and sacrifices of the departed mother and her family will always be remembered.
Malik while praying for her heavenly abode also prayed for the Sabr I Jamil of her bereaved family.
He also expressed heartfelt grief over the demise of Rahat Ded of Narbal whose son vanished in Indian forces custody some 28 years ago.
Paying tributes to the great lady and who till her last breath strived for recovering his disappeared son, Malik said that “such ladies are symbol of courage and continues struggle and today when this mother of ours has passed away we pay homage to him.” (KNS)
