Srinagar, Dec 25 (KNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday late evening announced that children between 15 and 18 years of age will be vaccinated from January 3 next year, reports said. 

Reports reaching Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that during an address to the nation tonight, PM Modi said that vaccination for children between age group 15-18 will begin from January 03 that is Monday.

Reports said that the Prime Minister also said "precaution doses" will be started for health care and front-line workers from January 10. “Those over 60 years of age with other co-morbidities will also receive extra doses from January 10,” he said.

PM Modi said the decision has been taken in consultation with scientists and experts.

He also said that there is no need to panic amid growing concerns about new Covid variant Omicron and asked the citizen not to pay heed to rumours.

“Coronavirus is not gone. We need to be alert and cautious. The world is talking about Omicron,” he said.

He said that the decision to announce these steps, which include vaccination for children and booster doses for frontline and healthcare workers, was taken in view of Atal Bihari Vajpayee's birthday and Christmas. (KNS)
