Srinagar, Oct 23 (KNS): People in central Kashmir’s Budgam district face inconvenience due to the “lackadaisical approach” of the doctors posted at district hospital, Budgam.
People alleged that the “healthcare in the district has gone to dogs.” An agitated group of locals today protested against a Consultant Physician, of the hospital, who is said to have manhandled patient and attendants at the hospital.
“I was manhandled by the doctor and his paramedic only after I asked why he is late,” said, Mushtaq Ahmad, a local. Ahmad claimed that he immediately rushed to the Medical superintendent to register his protest and the doctor followed him.
“He shouted at me. Don’t you know who you are talking to? I am an influential doctor,” Ahmad quoted, doctor as saying.
Ahmad said after Medical Superintendent intervened into the matter he decided to leave the hospital untreated. “I can’t bear the trauma from the doctor. I don’t know which medical ethics teach them to behave so rudely with the patients,” Ahmad said.
Another patient, Hamid Haideri, said that the same doctor has been scolding them for no reasons of theirs.
“I had gone to consult a doctor at the district hospital. I was kept waiting for hours. After 11: 15 AM, I enquired where the doctor is; the paramedic said that the doctor was on round,” Haideri said. He said that the he went to see the doctor in the ward. However there was no round going on. “The doctor was attending his privileged patients in his private clinic,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, Youth Development Front, Budgam - a group of local youth, who work for the betterment of the system in the area, alleged that the healthcare in the district hospital was dismal.

“We have been demanding the transfer of the erring doctors during the recent visit of the Health Minster Lal Singh ji. But nothing has happened so far,” he said. He said that the Front had raised some more issues of the hospital with the government; however nothing concrete has come up so far.
“Every influential doctor manages his posting to Budgam. They make it their transit camp. Come here maintaining the official register and immediately leave for the private clinics,” Hussain said. The Front has appealed the chief Minister and Health Minister to look into the matter and transfer the doctors, who according to them have managed postings in Budgam but prefer their private clinics.
Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings, Chaudhary Lal Singh, said that he will not accept any indispline in the hospitals. He said that patients and patient care was the top most priorities for him. The minster directed the doctors to exhibit the professionalism while dealing with the patients in the hospital. He also appealed people and attends not to create the “bad environment” in the hospitals.
Minister of State for Health, Asiea Naqash said that his department was going to be tough against the doctors, for creating indiscipline in the hospitals for their own “petty reasons.” She claimed that the chief minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed has taken a serious note over the complaints received against the earring doctors in various hospitals across the State.
“We have clear-cut guidelines to suspend the doctors who mess up the patient care in the rural and urban hospitals for their own benefits,” she said. (KNS)
