PDP will not compromise on its principles: Mansoor

‘We will not defend peoples’ right to eat what they want’

As the crisis over implementation or scrapping of the anti-beef ban is deepening between coalition partners in the state government, Peoples Democratic Party Saturday said that the party will not compromise on its principles and will do everything to defend the fundamental rights of the people.
“People have a fundamental right to follow and practice their religion. So people will defend the fundamental rights of the people,” Peerzada Mansoor, political advisor to PDP president Mehbooba Mufti told KNS.
He said that beef is consumed in many parts of India not only by Muslims but by people belonging to other religious communities. “Also there is a recent Supreme Court ruling that beef ban can’t be shoved down into the throats of people as it impinges on their fundamental rights,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Mansoor added that his party will defend the cultural and religious practice of eating beef by people in Muslim majority state of Jammu and Kashmir, and will counter any move which aims at violating people’s right to eat what they want.
He said that anyone can bring a bill in Assembly for the implementation of beef-ban law, but “we (PDP) will debate and discuss it there in the assembly which the biggest forum in democratic system.”
On a question that the Additional Advocate General (AAG) has demanded the reason from Law Secretary for being shifted from Home department, Mansoor said that no one can question the authority of Law Minister, who has powers to make his subordinates accountable. (KNS)
