PDP Spokesperson Mohd Iqbal Tramboo Urges Extension of Power Amnesty Scheme to Commercial Consumers

Srinagar, Sep 22 (KNS) : PDP spokesperson Mohd Iqbal Tramboo has urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to extend the power amnesty scheme to commercial consumers, highlighting the severe financial stress faced by businesses across the Union Territory.

In a Statement Issued,The government recently extended the domestic power amnesty scheme until March 31, 2026, benefiting nearly six lakh domestic consumers with pending electricity dues. The scheme allows payment of only the principal amount, with a 100% waiver on interest and surcharge accrued up to March 31, 2025. However, there are reports that Power Development Department (PDD) officials are not entertaining applications from consumers, causing unnecessary difficulties.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Tramboo emphasized that around 2.6 lakh commercial consumers are struggling with accumulated power dues. “The tourism sector has already suffered a major setback due to the unfortunate incident at Pahalgam this year. The hospitality industry is under a severe cash crunch. Extending the amnesty scheme to commercial establishments will bring a sigh of relief, especially under the prevailing liquidity squeeze,” he said.(KNS)
