PDP’s Altaf Malik Expresses Resentment Over Power Tariff Hike

Sopore, August 22 (KNS) : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) District Coordinator for Baramulla and constituency in-charge for Rafiabad, Altaf Malik, has expressed strong resentment and dismay over the continuous increase in electricity tariffs across the Kashmir Valley.

In a statement issued, Malik said the power tariff hikes have come despite the National Conference-led government’s promise of providing 200 units of free electricity to consumers. He alleged that the promise remains unfulfilled, while consumers continue to face rising power charges.

The PDP leader criticised the present government, saying the tariff hike comes at a time when people across Kashmir are already facing severe financial challenges.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

He said businesses have suffered losses, while fruit growers, farmers, tourism-related stakeholders and other sections of society continue to struggle with economic difficulties.

Malik said the additional financial burden of increased electricity charges would further affect poor and marginalised consumers, who, he maintained, are already finding it difficult to meet their basic expenses.

He urged the government to reconsider the tariff hike and take measures to provide relief to consumers, particularly economically weaker sections of society.(KNS)
