Srinagar, June 06 (KNS): National Conference Monday said that by curbing activities of separatists, the PDP’s “battle of ideas” slogan has turned out to be a nightmare for separatist leaders and their activists.
“The crackdown against Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for their statements against the PDP-BJP alliance and their efforts to forge unity between Hurriyat factions is directly being dealt by the chief minister,” NC spokesman Junaid Mattu told KNS.
“Since Yasin Malik has refused to fall in line and remain silent about PDP sell-outs, the government has dug up a 29 year old case to send him to jail–sending out a message of retribution when she ironically promised reconciliation before the elections,” he said.
“Mehbooba Mufti has repeatedly claimed that the genesis of the political turmoil lies in the 1987 elections–which she believes were rigged against the Muslim United Front (MUF). If she believes in this with conviction, how can she order that a case from 1987–against Yasin Malik for organizing a MUF rally–be used against him today?”
“This is a glaring contradiction that has exposed the PDP.”
“The government has also decided to go all out against Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and he is being prevented from discharging his religious duties as a cleric.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelToday there is relative peace and normality in the State and government has still gone for a “preventive detention” of these Hurriyat leaders. What has changed between 2013 and 2016 that the entire political vision of the present chief minister stands compromised and surrendered?”
“Where is Naeem Akhtar’s conscience today? Why doesn’t he recount his statements made between 2008 and 2014 about the need to talk to the separatists rather than imprisoning them?”
“The “battle of ideas” slogan has turned out to be a nightmare as far as separatist leaders and their activists are concerned.”
The NC spokesman said the Chief Minister’s “threat” to the media in the Legislative Assembly today means that the chief minister can’t take criticism.
“National Conference will hold PDP accountable–that is our duty and our role as the principal opposition party. Rather than focusing on the mediums of our communication and the social media accounts of the NC Working President, she should try to behave like a legislator if not a Chief Minister.” (KNS)
