The commemorative meeting was chaired by PDP General Secretary Mohammad Khurshid Alam and attended by senior party leaders, functionaries and workers who gathered to honour the memory and legacy of the revered leader.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Khurshid Alam paid glowing tributes to Mirza Afzal Baig and highlighted his immense contribution to the political and social history of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

"Mirza Afzal Baig was not merely a political leader; he was a visionary statesman who devoted his entire life to the service of the people. His steadfast commitment to justice, democratic values and the welfare of the common people earned him a place of immense respect in the hearts of generations of Kashmiris. His contribution towards empowering the people and strengthening democratic institutions remains a source of inspiration for all of us," Alam said.

 

He further added, "His political wisdom, courage of conviction and unwavering dedication to the rights and dignity of the people continue to guide us even today. As we remember him on his death anniversary, we reaffirm our commitment to the ideals and principles he upheld throughout his illustrious public life."

 

Paying tribute to the veteran leader, PDP Spokesperson Iqbal Tramboo described Mirza Afzal Baig as one of the principal architects of modern political consciousness in Jammu and Kashmir.

His life serves as a powerful reminder of principled leadership and selfless public service," Zuhaib Yousf Mir said.

 

The speakers noted that Mirza Afzal Baig occupies a unique place in the political history of Jammu and Kashmir for his significant role in championing democratic rights, strengthening representative politics and advocating measures aimed at the socio-economic upliftment of the people. They observed that his contributions continue to be remembered with admiration and respect across generations.

 

The gathering observed a moment of solemn reflection and offered floral tributes in memory of the departed leader.
