PDP pitches for restoration of old city’s glory

Calls for effective measures to decongest the area, rehabilitate dwellers

Srinagar, Nov 27 (KNS): PDP on Saturday pitched for the restoration of Brari Nambal’s pristine beauty, stating that if the water body is restored to its original form, it has capability of becoming the priceless jewel of Srinagar’s old city.
In a statement issued to KNS, party’s Srinagar district president and MLC Mohammad Khurshid Alam said that the successive regimes of the state vandalized the old city areas of Srinagar and the foremost priority for the present dispensation is to restore the glory of the place. “It has been a centre of civilization since centuries blended with world class heritage and water bodies. Those who claimed to be its saviours vandalized it to the extent that it is now a herculean task to safeguard its vital components,” Alam said.
PDP leader while pinning hopes on the present dispensation said the last visit paid by Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to old city of Srinagar was the historic one. He said the former chief minister had made it a one point agenda to make Srinagar a cradle of heritage and culture. “The able leadership of chief minister Mehbooba Mufti will take it forward and the people in Srinagar are optimistic that the day would be near when the old city would be accorded the place it deserves in the state of Jammu and Kashmir,” Alam said while addressing the party workers here.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He maintained further that the serious measures are being taken to ensure the Brari Nambal water body is preserved with its beautification prioritised. “It is the earnest desire of the people of the old city that Brari Nambal be preserved from further pollution and be restored to its original form so that it could become a centre of attraction for one and all,” he added.
Alam said that he is hopeful that the government would take all necessary measures to address the grievances of the people of the area as there are hardships being faced by them. “There are so many areas where congestion is taking toll and dwellings have turned shabby. The time is near when various important measures would be taken by virtue of which the people could heave a sigh of relief,” PDP’s Srinagar District President said. (KNS)
