Srinagar, Jan 14 (KNS): Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday hailed the government over approving the beautification project for Brari Nambal lagoon, stating that the old city in general and once famed water body was craving for official attention since long.
The government on the flood of the house in reply to the question submitted by PDP’s Srinagar District President and Upper House Member Mohammad Khurshid Alam, stated that conservation/ beautification of Brari Nambal Lagoon has been approved State Annual Action Plan- 2016-17 for Srinagar city under AMRUT at an estimated cost of Rs. 16.91 Crores. The government stated further that the DPR stands approved and the work is likely to be tendered this month.
In a statement issued to KNS, PDP’s district president for Srinagar stated that it was the long pending demand of the people of the old city and that the government by approving the project has vindicated the commitment of restoring the glory of Srinagar.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAlam maintained further that he had made it a commitment at a time of election with the people of the old city and that same was included in PDP’s election manifesto as well. “It is the earnest desire of the people of the old city that Brari Nambal be preserved from further pollution and be restored to its original form so that it could become a centre of attraction for one and all,” he added.
Alam said the last visit paid by late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed to Old City in December 2015 was the “historic one”. He said the former Chief Minister had made it a one point agenda to make Srinagar a cradle of heritage and culture. “The able leadership of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will take it forward and the people in Srinagar are optimistic that the day would be near when the old city would be accorded the place it deserves in the state of Jammu and Kashmir,” Alam said.
