Srinagar, May 13 (KNS): As the Operation theatre in Lala Ded hospital gutted in fire on Friday evening, the authorities Saturday shifted the patients who were scheduled to get operated today to JVC hospital Bemina, where at least 28 surgeries were conducted since last 24 hours, officials said.
According to the officials in the JVC Bemina, after the fire engulfed the Operation theatre in LD hospital, the patients schooled to get operated were shifted to the Medical College Hospital Bemina. “We have operated at least 28 referral patients since last evening while more 48 such cases of Gynae and Obstetric are still admitted in different wards in addition to the routine admission in Gynae and Obstetric,” they said.
The officials said that once the news of sudden closure of Operation theatre Complex went to periphery, the referral of Obstetric patients in critical condition reported to the SKIMS Medical College Hospital Bemina directly.
The Principal of SKIMS Medical College, Dr Riyaz Ahmad Untoo without wasting any time directed to accommodate these emergency patients on all available beds and pressed in the Civil and Electrical Engineering Department who within two hours managed to remove raw materials being used for renovation, cleaning of the ward with disinfectants and temporary electrification of the Ophthalmology ward as the same is under major renovation since last few days.
“22 new beds were allocated in this Ophthalmology ward alone. The additional staff in all related departments was augmented and even senior consultants of Gynae and Obstetric department including the HOD pressed into service and two more operating tables belonging to other surgical wings provided to tackle this emergency in the night with the result more than 28 major surgeries including some critical were carried in the night against average obstetric surgeries of 4-5,” the officials added.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
They informed KNS that total admission in this department in few hours was 53 and at present 48 such cases of Gynae and Obstetric are still admitted in different wards in addition to the routine admission in Gynae and Obstetric. “At present, four operating tables are working,” the officials told KNS.
However, the officials said that besides the referral cases, the patients from different places of Kashmir who came to know about the fire incident at LD hospital are directly coming visiting the hospital for treatment and surgeries thereby putting the huge work load to the authorities of JVC Bemina.
Meanwhile, the dedication and commitment shown by the Doctors, Paramedical and other staff including civil and electrical engineering in JVC Bemina was appreciated by the attendants.
A group of the attendants have highly appreciated and thanked the JVC Bemina authorities for timely help and providing all assistance.
Admitting the facts that 28 surgeries were conducted in JVC Bemina so far, the Principal of SKIMS Medical College, Dr Riyaz Ahmad Untoo applauded the role played by the staff including Doctors, paramedical staff and other staff as well.
Referring to a query, he said that the hospital is not having the sufficient capacity and the disaster management ward must be created in the hospital, which would help them in tackling the rush of patients in case of emergency like at present. (KNS)
