Parents criticise education department for announcing early summer vacations this year

Srinagar, July 08 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir School education department has come under heavy criticism from parents for announcing early summer vacations this year, which have now come to an end.

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), scores of parents expressed resentment and criticised the department for its decision to announce early summer vacations this year stating that hottest summer days are still way behind.

They said that the decision by the education department was ill-timed as hottest summer days are yet to come, however, the department announced the vacations too early, which have now come to an end.

“We don’t understand as to why the department announced the summer vacations in a haste even when there was no heatwave. Usually summer vacations would be announced in Jammu and Kashmir in the first week of August when there would be hottest summer days,” said a parent, whose ward is studying in a Srinagar school.

She said that the department should have applied some logic before announcing summer vacations and also taken all stakeholders on board.

The parents said that what will the department do when in coming days temperature will go up and there will hotter days ahead. “Will they announce more vacations at that time. The vacations are over now and hotter days ahead, how would children bear the heat,” they questioned.

They said that with just one hottest day in June, the authorities announced summer vacations for reasons best known to them. “They should have waited for some more days before taking the decision in such haste,” they said.

They urged upon the authorities concerned to take some concrete steps so that children do not have to face any hardships if day temperatures go up. (KNS)
