Tral, Mar 19 (KNS): The panchayat members in Tral in southern Pulwama district today protested against the Rural Development department officials in the area for ‘demanding’ commission for alloting construction work under MGNREGA and other centrally spospnsored schemes.
Several Panches, Sarpanches and contractors from Lalpora and Machama villages protested and alleged that the officials in Block Development Office Tral have made the centrally sponsored schemes a money minting scheme for them.
“The officials in BDO office demand bribe for allotting us work.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThey term the bribe as commission. Recently, I had to pay Rs 20,000 to a junior engineer to release payment for a work,” alleged Muhammad Yousuf, a protestor. He alleged that the officials have made it a ‘norm’ to allot any work or release payment of the work.
The agitating panchayat members said that the divisional commissioner and the Governor should intervene into the matter so that the corruption ends in the BDO office. (KNS)
