DC Kupwara says festival an opportunity to boost tourism potential of district, ‘Efforts on to keep Bangus Valley open during winter’

Kupwara January 29 (KNS): Deputy commissioner Kupwara Dr Doifode Sagar Dattatray on Sunday said the first day of Winter Carnival receiver an overwhelming response as over 10,000 people turned up to attend the event. 


Talking to reporters, as per Kashmir News Service (KNS), Dr Sagar said since this was the first of its kind of festival in Kupwara, they got an unexpected response from visitors as thousands of people thronged the gateway of Bangus Valley. 

He said the initiative was a successful event on the very first day and this was a learning process for them, but district administration is keen to have more similar events in future to boost the tourism potential. 

Dr Sagar also said efforts are in place to keep the Bangus Valley open during winters to attract the visitors and locals have a major role to play to accelerate the tourist activities in the district. 

“The conduct of Winter Carnival will boost the tourism activities in a big way which will create livelihood opportunities for the local youth of the district,” he said.

He appealed to the youth of the district to participate in the festival in large numbers and also urged people to visit vast meadows of Bangus Valley.  

Meanwhile, visitors also expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by district administration to facilitate the people during the festival. (KNS)
