Opposition stages walkout during Governor’s address

Demands magisterial probe in Handwara killings, rollback of NFSA

Srinagar, May 25 (KNS): Opposition on Wednesday staged walkout while Governor N N Vohra was addressing the joint session of the state legislature at SKICC here.
National Conference and Congress legislators staged walkout to protest against the ‘failure of government over several issues’.
As soon as the Governor N N Vohra started his address to the joint sitting of the Budget Session at 11 am, the opposition rose up and demanded revocation of NFSA, magisterial probe in Handwara killings and sacking of Forest minister Lal Singh.
NC leaders shouted slogans amid thumping the benches. “We need ration not speeches,” they shouted.
They also shouted slogans against Lal Singh and demanded his sacking for his “anti-Muslim remarks” last week. “Give protection to Jammu Muslims,” they shouted.

MLA Langate, Engineer Abdul Rashid demanded magisterial probe in Handwara killings. Carrying a banner on Handwara killings, Rasheed said that the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti had promised to complete the investigation in one month and make the probe public.
“Where is the investigation even more than one month has passed,” he asked.
Opposing the cluster townships for Kashmir Pandits and Sainik Colony, Rasheed said, “We won’t allow Kashmir to be made another Palestine,” he said.
While the Governor was still addressing the House, NC sat on dharna at the SKICC entrance.
However, the independent legislators, Hakeem Yasin and Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, who are in opposition, remained silent and listened to the Governor’s address. (KNS)
