‘Govt wants students to be qualified, not educated’

Srinagar, Nov 04 (KNS): Leaders of mainstream opposition parties Friday ridiculed the reduction of syllabus to the classes 10 and class 12, reiterating their demand deferment of planned exams in the interest of students at large.
The leaders accused government of “using students as political tool to end ongoing uprising in Kashmir.”
“It was better to announce mass promotions for the both classes than politicizing issue. Government wants students to be qualified and not educated. It wants to give us a community of uneducated literate,” Congress state chief, G A Mir told KNS.
He said that by announcing 50 per cent reduction in syllabus, the government is putting the future of students at stake. “Once you (government) are making exams too easy then it is not exam. It would have been better for them to announce mass promotion for the students,” he said.
Mir said that instead of announcing 50 per cent reduction, the government should have deferred the exams of students till March next year so that the students can prepare themselves to appear in exams.
National Conference (NC) provisional president, Nasir Aslam Wani said that termed the decision as leaving students ‘half illiterate’.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“I believe the decision taken by the government is not favourable decision for students but can only ruin their future,” he said.
He said that the reduction in syllabus to the students can leave thousands of students scheduled to sit in competitive exams to suffer. “The government should defer the exams till the students won’t complete their syllabus,” he told KNS.
Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) president and MLA Kulgam, Hakim Muhammad Yasin told KNS that education doesn’t require any concession. “The government should have instead announced mass promotion,” he said.
He said that the decision doesn’t accommodate the aspirations of students. “The students must be given chance to prepare themselves to appear in examination without any concession so that they couldn’t only qualify the exams but can also educate themselves,” he said.
He said that the government decision can leave the future of students at stake and termed the decision as worst than mass promotion. “First preference should have been given to deferment of exams,” Hakim said. (KNS)
