Fog disrupts traffic in Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 23 (KNS): One person died and three injured in a road accident in Srinagar outskirts Monday morning as fog enveloped the whole Valley amid cold winter.
Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat Son of Ali Mohammad of Ratnipora Pulwama died when his vehicle collided with a cement mixer at Mirgund on Srinagar-Baramulla highway, police officials said.
“Three more persons have sustained injuries in the accident. The vehicle was carrying newspapers to north Kashmir. The accident occurred on the Srinagar-Baramulla Highway near Mirgund, Pattan,” he said.
A dense fog prevailed in the morning today in cold winter and reports said that due to thick fog, the Tavera collided with a cement mixer near Mirgund.
Kashmir valley witnessed thick fog since today morning and vehicles had to use head lights even after 9 am.
The foggy morning, chilly weather Monday disrupted vehicular movement across the Srinagar city and made the movement of traffic difficult.
According to the Meteorological department, the minimum temperature at several parts of the state was also dipped below the freezing point.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
With the dark foggy morning continued till 11:30 am, the vehicular traffic, school going children and commuters faced tough time as the visibility in the fog was too low.
The traffic was moving with a snail pace on the roads while several drivers preferred to switch on lamps on their vehicles.
“I was not able to see what is behind me while I was driving my car from Lal Chowk to Hyderpora. To drive a car can prove dangerous to the driver in this foggy morning,” Amir Manzoor, a local said.
A parent while talking to KNS said that the fog created disturbance to their children as fog made everything look invisible.
The authorities cancelled or delayed flights to Srinagar airport due to hazy morning as they flights could not take off the runway.
The Met officials said that the fog is likely to occur on Tuesday as well while the visibility in it will be very low.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in the summer capital of the state, Srinagar was recorded at 1.3 degrees Celsius. (KNS)
