Heavy snowfall halts snow clearance work: SSP Traffic

Srinagar, Jan 07 (KNS): Though the higher reaches of the Valley continued to receive snowfall on Saturday, the 300 km long Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, the only road connecting Valley with rest of the country continued to remain closed on the second consecutive day for the vehicular movement.
The authorities closed the road in the wee hours of Friday following the slippery conditions triggered after heavy snowfall at various places.
Talking to KNS, SSP Traffic Srinagar, Fayaz Ahmad Lone said that the highway continued to remain closed on the second consecutive day today due to the continuance of heavy snowfall.
He said that the work to clear snow on roads was also halted due to the continuance heavy snowfall.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“Once the snowfall will stop, we will press men and machinery to clear the snow on roads so that the vehicles would be allowed to ply smoothly,” he said.
He said that there is no vehicle stranded on this side but a few of vehicles are stranded on the Jammu side, which were not allowed to move today as precautionary measures.
It is worth to mention here that the Srinagar Meteorological (MeT) department has forecasted improvement in the weather conditions from Jan 09. “There is possibility of the improvement in the weather conditions from Jan 09,” the officials in the MeT department had informed. (KNS)
