Omar Abdullah playing escapist politics to placate Pakistan ISI : Chugh

Jammu/Srinagar, May 22 (KNS): BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, who is also the party incharge for Jammu & Kashmir, today strongly condemned the "divisive and defeatist" stance of the National Conference. He said the resolutions passed by the NC following Operation Sindoor are not only misleading but also appear to align with the interests of Pakistan’s ISI.

In a statement issued to KNS, Chugh said that at a time when the nation Stands tall with Prime Minister Modi and Indian Armed forces, Omar Abdullah should have had the same stand Instead, he has chosen to indulge in escapist politics that seeks to blur the real enemy and confuse the national discourse.

Chugh expressed dismay that the NC resolution completely omits any appreciation for Operation Sindoor, which decisively dismantled key terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK. Even more glaring, he noted, is the total silence on Pakistan’s ISI-backed cross-border terrorism—as if National Conference is hesitant to even name those responsible for the bloodshed.

“Instead of holding Pakistan accountable for the massacre in Pahalgam, the National Conference has indulged in political posturing that serves no one but our enemies,” Chugh said.

He also exposed Omar Abdullah's rank hypocrisy and conscious bankruptcy, pointing out that during the Pahalgam attack, the same Omar Abdullah had stated on the Assembly floor that he would refrain from raising the issue of statehood in such sensitive times.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“Yet now, within days, the National Conference resolution once again raises the demand for statehood and so-called special status,” Chugh said. “This is not just a U-turn — it is a deliberate act of political opportunism at the cost of national unity.”

"How can one talk of restoring 'special status' and statehood at a time when the priority should be to unite against terrorism and support the armed forces?" he asked. “This proves Omar Abdullah’s priorities lie not with the victims or national interest, but with appeasement and vote bank politics.”

Chugh said, "Terror and talks cannot go hand-in-hand — this fundamental principle should have been reiterated by the National Conference if they truly stood with the people of Jammu & Kashmir.”

He added that such actions from mainstream parties only embolden anti-India forces and damage the larger fight against terrorism. “The nation expects leadership. Unfortunately, Omar Abdullah has chosen political theatre over patriotic responsibility,” Chugh concluded.
