Observe August 15 as ‘Black Day’: Shah

Calls for setting up of community education centers in Valley

Srinagar, Aug 13 (KNS): Supporting the shutdown call on August 15 as per Hurriyat Conference programme, Chairman Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Saturday said the Day is the ‘Black Day’ for the people of Jammu Kashmir.
In a statement issued to KNS, Shah said: “While two nations of the subcontinent celebrate their independence days, the people of Jammu Kashmir continue to suffer from the Indian state-sponsored oppression. This Day is the most unfortunate and darkest day for us as India has occupied Jammu Kashmir forcibly and illegally.”
Shah said Kashmiris don't harbour any grudge against the people of India but are their well-wishers. “Our movement is against the government of India and we demand our birth right of self-determination. As Indian people celebrate Independence Day on August 15, its forces continue to commit worst kind of human rights violations here and have unleashed a reign of terror in every nook and corner of the Valley. The killings, arrests, nocturnal raids, maiming and blinding our children have become a routine here,” he said.
“New Delhi should read writing on the wall that its hegemony won’t work within the territory of Jammu Kashmir. Despite celebrating the Independence Day in presence of 8 lakh forces in Jammu Kashmir since last 69 years, the people of the State continue to demand Azadi from India and as such, every soul is steadfast.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelNew Delhi should bear in mind that this movement isn’t run by a handful of people but has a backing of 1 crore 25 lakh people,” Shah said.
Shah said, “We will continue to observe this Day as Black Day till the Kashmir issue is resolved as per the UN resolutions or through tripartite dialogue. India cannot prolong the dispute for long but has to resolve it.”
Meanwhile, a DFP spokesperson expressed grief over the martyrdom of Suhail Ahmad Wani of Lethpora saying the AFSPA has let loose the reign of terror across Valley. He slammed those at helm in affairs for maintaining criminal silence over the killing saying the fear of losing chair is preventing them to make any comment over it. He also lamented over the death of a lady in Nundresh Colony, Bemina, who died of heart attack due to terror unleashed by forces.
The spokesperson while keeping in view the present situation called for the setting up of community education centers in Valley while appealing the educated people and teachers to voluntarily contribute in this regard so that the needy students benefit out of such initiative. (KNS)
