Notorious drug peddler held along with contraband substance in Kupwara: Police

 
Kupwara, Mar 11 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in Rigipora village of Kupwara district and recovered contraband substance from his possession. 
 
In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), a spokesperson said that continuing its relentless drive against the menace of narcotics smuggling and peddling, Kupwara Police during the preceding night at about 20:30 hours apprehended a narcotic smuggler namely Gulzar Ahmad Baba son of Ali Mohd Baba of Kawari village from Rigipora area. 
 
The statement reads that 21  grams of Brown Sugar was recovered from his possession. 
 
Quoting SSP Kupwara Yougal Manhas, the statement reads that it was based on a specific information that a police naka led by SHO  Kupwara Mohammad Rafiq under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Rashid Younis was established at Rigipora area where Gulzar was arrested while peddling the narcotics to sell it among youth of Kupwara. 
 
"Sensing Police presence,  Gulzar tried to evade his interception but was caught tactfully and his personal search wad carried, during which 21 grams of Brown Sugar was recovered which was seized and sealed on the spot."
 
It reads that during preliminary investigations, Gulzar revealed that he was on way to sell the narcotics in small quantities among the youth of Kupwara. "Further investigations in the case to unearth this drugs syndicate is in progress. Gulzar is a known peddler who in the garb of government employment is stealthily involved in drugs peddling in the area. Strong legal action has been initiated against him," it reads. (KNS)
