9,346 passengers penalised for irregular travel as division continues strict surprise inspections
Jammu, Dec 1 (KNS): The Jammu Division of Northern Railway earned around ?57 lakh in revenue from ticket checking during November as part of special drives to curb ticketless and irregular travel, officials said on Monday.
Officials told the Kashmir News Service (KNS), that the drives were conducted under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar and the supervision of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (SDCM) Uchit Singhal.
Ticket checking teams carried out inspections at several railway stations across the division, including Jammu, Katra, Pathankot Cantt, Pathankot City and Srinagar, as well as on multiple trains.
According to officials, 9,346 passengers were found travelling without valid tickets or engaging in irregular travel during these checks, resulting in a fine collection of about ?57 lakh.
Railway officials added that surprise ticket checking inspections are also being carried out regularly to prevent unauthorized entry into station premises and ensure that only passengers with valid tickets board trains.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Along with curbing ticketless travel, the Jammu Division has been conducting drives to maintain cleanliness and check public littering. During November, fines amounting to ?17,000 were collected from 53 passengers for littering at railway stations, the officials said.
Commenting on the exercise, SDCM Uchit Singhal said the division will continue to conduct such drives to ensure transparency in the ticketing system and improve passenger convenience.
“These drives play an important role in curbing ticketless and irregular travel, which ultimately increases railway revenue while ensuring better services for genuine rail passengers,” Singhal said.(KNS).
