Srinagar, Feb 11 (KNS) ; The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday said road dividers erected in Sopore town were built without mandatory clearances from the local municipal body, even as the civic body has sought their removal.
In a written reply to a question by legislator Irshad Rasool Kar in the Assembly, the government as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said the dividers at Main Chowk and near Shah Dargah were constructed by the R&B Division, Sopore, under the Special Area Development Programme (SADP).
"The divider has been constructed... as such no NOC (No Objection Certificate) was sought from the Municipal Council Sopore," the reply stated.
It confirmed that the elected Municipal Council Sopore had "passed a resolution recommending removal of said dividers."
Following the resolution, a committee was set up by the Deputy Commissioner to examine if traffic decongestion could be achieved without removing the structures. "The committee has submitted its report, further appropriate necessary action shall be taken up accordingly," the government said. (KNS)
