With the reports that authorities have sounded flood alert in valley, the Chief Engineer, Irrigation, Flood and Control, Kashmir, Javed Jaffer claimed that authorities have not sounded any flood alert, but have only issued a safety advisory to the people residing along the river’s embankment.
“The reports that any flood alert has been sounded in the valley are false. We are monitoring the situation and as of now there is no threat of flood. The water level at Sangam which was 22.2 feet is receding,” Javed Jaffer told KNS over phone.
He said the water level in Jehlum at Sangam in South Kashmir was recorded 22.2 feet at11am and water level at Ram Munshi Bagh was recorded 19 feet.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He however maintained that the situation is under control as of now. “Administration is fully alert to deal with any eventuality. There is there is no need of any panic as the weather condition is likely to improve from afternoon,” he said.
Reports said water in Jehlem, other streams, nallahs and flood channels in many areas of south and north Kashmir and some parts of Srinagar city were flowing near danger mark.
It is to mention here that there were reports that flood alert has been sounded in Jammu and Kashmir following the increase in water level in the Jhelum River at two places in south and central Kashmir. (KNS)
