Srinagar, May 06 (KNS): While addressing a mammoth gathering at Phamra Nar Gursai, Mendhar, Javed Ahmed Rana, the Central Secretary JKNC, former Deputy Chairman Legislative Council and former MLA appealed to the Governor, Satya Pal Malik to intervene into the matter pertained to Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yogna (PMGSY), that has not been effectively and efficiently implemented in the state.
“Mendhar, a tehsil in Poonch district of Jammu & Kashmir state represents a laggard and dismal picture in context to PMGSY Scheme” said Rana.
"Since its inception on 25th December, 2000 by the then Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee the scheme has been unsuccessful to achieve its target goals as included in the manifesto," said Rana.
He further emphasized that “as far as Mendhar tehsil is concerned, the scheme has totally failed in addressing key issues like providing connectivity among far flung villages, reducing poverty & strengthening livelihood of inhabitants particularly Scheduled Tribes and other backward communities”.
He also suggested that government should include some Schemes at state level which complement PMGSY Scheme and quoted an example of “Mukhya Mantri Gram Sadak Yogna (MMGSY) that has shown better results in other states”.
Rana lambasted, and quoted ironically about statements released by official sources “in Jammu & Kashmir only 601 kms road has been constructed in comparison to 2800 kms as targeted under the flagship of PMGSY Scheme of which 20% of roads still need overhauling.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel"
He also blamed govt. for not taking the matter seriously, the brunt of which tribal and other backward people are facing today, particularly in laggard areas like Mendhar.
Highlighting the importance of good road connectivity, Rana pointed that “progress and prosperity of any civilization is determined primarily by better maintained roads and viewed from this perspective the inhabitants of Mendhar have been hoodwinked and eyewashed by the vested interests of the present government”.
“Being very close to LOC, Mendhar tehsil has a sensitive strategic location, and due to its tough topography inhabitants are unable to move to safe places and the bad conditions of roads has further escalated their problem," Rana said vehemently.
Applauding Governor’s luminancy and acumen, Rana hankered “a quick and proper plan of PMGSY Scheme be revamped which is imperative for inhabitants of Mendhar, so that they are not affected socially and economically".
He expressed his belief in the governance of Satya Pal Malik and warned about marring of developmental projects in far flung areas like Mendhar.
He also lambasted on various authorities, for “onus lies” in context to PMGSY Scheme which has caused delay and poor outcome of this project on various fronts.
Simultaneously, he requested the honourable governor to direct the concerned authorities, to ensure timely execution of this centrally sponsored scheme. (KNS)
